Yeshe Tsogyal
Yeshe Tsogyal, believed to be a feminine embodiment of Elizabeth Clare Prophet, was a main disciple of Padma Sambhava (the founder of Tibetan Buddhism). Yeshe recorded his oral instructions and concealed them as "treasure teachings" to be revealed in future centuries. In the ninth century Padma Sambhava prophesied that in the future 108 tertons (teachers and revealers of hidden treasures) would embody to reveal certain teachings. He said each of these disciples would receive the specific teachings needed, either as physical documents or in visions, to help them liberate the people of their generation. Yeshe was one of the tertons predicted to return.
In the book, On Fire For God by Alex and Margaret Reichardt, we read an interesting story written by a chela (student) of Mrs. Prophet named Larry Stanley. The following is an excerpt.
In 1999 I made a trip to Lhasa, Tibet, with my good friend Christopher and several other wonderful friends. There we met Bangri Rinpoche, a Tibetan lama who is also thought to be an embodiment of one of the 25 original disciples of Padma Sambhava. One evening in our hotel, Christopher, Debra and I were discussing how we might broach the subject of his tie with Mother if it came up in conversation. We wanted to be careful not to offend the lama. Being in a foreign land we were unsure of what was appropriate and what might be seen as disrespectful. Our discussion was without a conclusion and we dropped the subject.
The next day we went to tea with Bangri, he asked, "So, what do you have to tell me?" He explained that the night before "Your big Western God came to me and told me that you have something important to tell me." We looked at each other in disbelief and sensing the ever-watchful eye of El Morya, we proceeded to tell Rinpoche about our teacher.
We showed him a picture of Mother and told him that she was ill and that she was a student of Padma Sambhava. We then told him that she was our teacher as well. Tears then came to his eyes and he swooned. I believe he recognized Mother on the spot. Bangri then revealed to us that in Tibetan text it was stated that a woman would be reembodied in the West who would bring the teachings of Padma Sambhava to the Western world, confirming Mother was this woman. He selected an ancient Tibetan text that was in his prayer room and carefully unwrapped the aged paper, then proceeded to read to us this amazing revelation by Padma Sambhava. With firm conviction, Rinpoche then told us that he must come to America and see our teacher. He wanted to help.
Earlier in the day, we had attended the giving of mantras by Bangri and some of his monks. He then asked us to give him a demonstration of our prayers, so we demonstrated decrees for him. He was keenly interested in our teachings and commented that he had been studying the same teachings for 600 years and was excited to learn new practices.
Later that year, Bangri was able to make the trip to America to meet Mother. When he returned to Tibet, Bangri Rinpoche was arrested and given a 15-year sentence by the Chinese government for actions against the state. He was accused of teaching his students Tibetan Buddhism and other subjects forbidden by the government, Bangri, after nearly ten years, remains in prison today. Please pray for his release.
Next, some final thoughts about Mrs. Prophet.
